THE
EDGEWATER RESORT AND SPA
The
Edgewater Resort and Spa is the largest accommodation complex
on Rarotonga and is situated at the sunset-end of the island.
It
is nestled near a white-sand beach only a few kilometres from
the international airport.
The
Edgewater has a wide choice of rooms from basic garden rooms
to VIP deluxe suites.
It
isn't unfair to describe the resort as being tired and in
need of a good spruce up.
While
on Rarotonga we stayed in a Lagoon View Room that was clean,
tidy and had everything we needed including a small balcony,
SkyTV, air-conditioning and a ceiling fan.
Next
time we go there we may opt for a beachfront unit, but as
we spent very little time in the room what we had was perfectly
fine.
One
of the benefits of staying at the Edgewater is that everyone
knows it and so being picked up for tours is a breeze.
It
is also a stop-off point for the Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise
buses, has two restaurants, a Budget car hire office, a gift
shop, a laundry and a Polynesian spa.
There
is a pool and also tennis courts.
The
Edgewater has two Island
Nights a week where you can be entertained until late
by dancers and drummers and these are very good shows. There
is nightly entertainment put on by the Edgewater.
We
found the staff pretty friendly and helpful.
But
it does pay to double check the Happy Hour for cocktails as
it seems it varies according to each staff member you ask.
For
children there is the Coconut Kids Club.
The club allows parents to relax knowing their kids are safely
involved in great entertainment during their stay.
Activities
include: Interactive lessons on local culture and customs,
Rarotongan drumming lessons, Cook Islands dancing, Costume
making, Creating local souvenirs, Crab hunting and painting
a coconut.
Club
hours are three sessions a day, Monday to Saturday: 9am to
12 noon, 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm.
