About
five minutes out of Coromandel
Town is the amazing Driving Creek Railway.
This
not only a really cool mini railway that leads up a mountain to
some amazing views of the Coromandel Peninsula,
it is also a living workshop for artists - such as potters and glassblowers.
The
train trip is a one-hour return journey on the railway's specially
designed trains.
It
takes you through replanted native kauri forest and includes two
spiral sections, three short tunnels, five reversing points and
several large viaducts.
The
narrow-gauge railway is an amazing engineering feat with very artistic
twists as it climbs up to the mountain-top terminus.
Many
of the walls to the track are made from recycled bottles and as
you appreciate the green efforts by the Driving Creek Railway you
can enjoy some fabulous panoramic views from the terminus - the
Eyefull Tower.
The
Driving Creek Railway is at 380
Driving Creek Rd, just north of Coromandel Town.
