Otway Accommodation
If
by some miracle you are travelling down the Great Ocean Road and
get sick of the scenery ... well, that won't happen ... but you
may need to stretch your legs and we have just the place.
It
is just out of Lavers Hill in the Otway Ranges and it is a terrific
spot where you can leave driving, car fumes and kids' complaints
behind you and relax amid serene temperate rainforest.
It
is Otway Fly Treetop Adventures and the operation offers you two
main things to enjoy.
There
is the guided Zipline Tour, a 3.5 hour experience of whizzing through
the trees and forest on a harness - much like a flying fox.
The
eco tour includes 2.5 hours of Zip Line activity, which includes
training and simulation, in which you fly from platforms - eight
in all - which are called cloud stations. You can just imagine the
excitement at zipping 30m off the ground on six flights and crossing
two suspension bridges.
There
is also a one hour Treetop Walk.
If
you are nervous or have a heart condition the Zipline Tour, which
is the only one in Victoria, is rated medium on the adrenalinometer.
The
Otway Fly's Treetop Walk is a really enjoyable and certainly more
relaxing way to see Victoria's flora.
You
begin your treetop journey on ground level with a very pleasant
walk through some gorgeous treescapes.
Along
the way kids, both small and large, will almost certainly encounter
dinosaurs on the Prehistoric Path.
After
a little more than half a kilometre you reach the treetop walkway
- a steel structure that will let you walk among the forest's canopy.
The
floor of the pathway is steel grating that allows you to see what
is going on below you. Easy at the start but if you have height
issues then you may want to hold on to the handrails as the walkway
reaches 30 metres above the ground.
If
heights are not a problem for you then climb the lookout tower -
which rises another 17 metres above the forest floor. I must admit
it took me a minute or so to get used to the height from the top.
For
the truly adventurous you can head out on to the cantilever platform
- which not only moves up and down with each step but the end panel
is clear perspex!
The
first time did it some years ago it had me sweating, but the last
time was a breeze.
At
600m long, the Otway Fly's Treetop Walk is the longest and highest
of its type in the world.
1
hour rainforest walk experience that is approx 2km in total and
features a 600mt long and 30mt high steel structured treetop canopy
walkway that takes you right into the treetops.
It’s the longest and tallest walkway of its type in the world! Included
in this walk is the kids Prehistoric Path – where there is a dinosaur
around every corner!
