I
love Port Campbell and its surrounding national park area.
To
me it is the perfect getaway destination be it in summer, winter,
spring or autumn.
For
it really doesn't matter what the weather is like along that part
of the Great Ocean Road there is always something fabulous to see
and experience.
I
have lost count of the number of times I've visited for a weekend
away or a holiday and each time I return the pleasure is just as
good.
About
600 people live in Port Campbell itself and along with tourism and
service industries the key employer is crayfishing.
My
memories of the Port Campbell pub remain strong from my previous
trips down to the Apostles.
It
was always see the sights, check in to the motel, and then off to
the pub for a hearty steak and some beer.
The
pub is pretty much the same and the food was good ... so was the
beer on tap!
There
are several other eateries in town - including cafes and takeways
- that give you options for meals and drinks.
Nico's
is a great little Italian restaurant in Port Campbell offering pizza
and pasta. It is small and intimate and the pizzas looked good,
while the pasta was tasty and filling. We had linguini apollo avocado
and linguini prawn agusto.
The
fresh home-made bread has been given the thumbs up.
Port
Campbell offers plenty of accommodation in the form of motels, backpackers
and the Port Campbell National Park Cabin and Camping Park. It is
very close to the town centre and is clean, with great facilities
and has a good friendly atmosphere. We were very happy to spend
three nights there in our campervan.
